Filling the Ditch

Filling the Ditch   6/30/'2014

It doesn’t seem real
The incredible blessings
And unspeakable horror
That come in a drizzle
Or gush down on our heads.

It is not something
Anyone can understand
As God acts
Or waits.

The creeping vines grow up the wall
And the moss spreads
Between the rocks
We age
And then we die.

But what took centuries to build
Can be gone in a heartbeat
Because preservation takes work
Dedication and sacrifice.

The storm comes from afar
And only a fool
Cannot see it coming
As it brews
And as it boils.

The debt is high
More than we can pay
But everyone who lives
Must bear the cost.

Blood runs in the dirt
As the dead lay unburied
In the heat of the sun
They are stripped
And defiled.

Do not doubt their hatred
And do not doubt their resolve
As they rage, murder
Pillage and plunder.

Squared steel awaits
Plummeting through the sky
Whistling down through the clouds
Smashing mountains
And melting rock.

Penetrating deep
The iron thunderbolts drive
Screaming for home
And all who die before it.
