Black Velvet

Black Velvet 6/13/2014

There is sadness
And then there is grief
The deepest darkest kind
That drags you down
Deep into the black.

It is not something you can understand
Unless you have felt it
Riding on your back
Like an anvil holding you down
As you flail and gasp
Until you drown.

The unconscious do not know
And fall face down into sleep
Unable to remember
How much it hurt
Or why.

The lay where they fall
Limp and vulnerable
As their fluids leak
And their cells die.

Dragged, defiled
Murdered and spoiled
They do not feel
But remain as symbols
For the cruel
And hateful.

But those who awaken
Cannot forget
No matter what they do
Or where they go.

The flowers still bloom
But to the mourner
That are gray and lifeless
As food loses its taste
And their tongues start to swell.

The black birds circle
And they cry out with delight
As they wait for another
To choke on their blood.

Evil men
Do evil things
And there is no excuse
For what is wrong.

They will laugh
And they will rage
But even this
Must come to pass.

Let them swing
And let them cavort
As they spend all their fury
And drink deeply of the cup.

When the sky parts
They will run
Falling on themselves
To beg and plead.

But this will be the hour
That all of it falls
Thunderstruck down
In a single bolt of iron.

Be not afraid
And love with all your might
Because love is forever
And all of this is dead.
