Into the Valley

Into the valley                  2/2/2016

Yesterday a fog blew in
And settled in the hills
Sinking down into every crevice
Thick, heavy, and impenetrable.

Covering the road
And covering the buildings
Hidden and invisible
Like traitors
And oligarchs.

You can see it coming from a mile away
But sheep never listen
And almost never see
Flocking into their pens

All dumb as monkeys
Sitting in a row
With hands over their eyes
And hands over their mouths.

Mindlessly following
Where we are herded
Just as deadly
As it is suicidal.

The long branch
Hangs low
Tilting the tree
Groaning under the weight
Of time.

There is no other option
But survival
And there nothing more valuable
Than endurance.

Keep the faith
By keeping it real
Nothing forced, duplicitous
Practiced, or fake.

Never lose hope
No matter how hard the battle
Or how bitter the defeat
But remain determined
Redoubled and resolute.

Today we ride
On iron horses
Charging forward
On thunderheads
With blood in our mouth
And death in our eyes.
