Cover

Cover                 1/3/2017

A new day
And a new year
Time to tie it up
Or time
To cut it off.

Some people know
And some people think
But now even the silent
Speak louder and louder.

The world retreats
As into a cave
Deep, dark
Cold and remote.

A long winters nap
And a long pause for breath
As we all face the truth
With wonder at the glimmer.

Waiting for something
We whisper fervent oaths
When all of it adds up
And all of it comes down.

A heavy weight
Rests on the weary
Those who have tried
And those who
Have lost.

Blamed, ignored
And savaged
The good and the compliant
Overburdened
And silent.

Winter passes
Colder than ever
Covered over
And shrouded in white.

Some are good
And some are not
Sorted out
Pure and impure.

Cleansing me and cleansing you
Straightened and humbled
We now know
What love means.

Hope remains
And glistens like the glass
The icy dawn
Of a whole new dream.
