Another day and another list
Split, doubled and divided
The sorted out nothingness
Of wasted days
And hours.
All against one
And one against all
As the distance crumbles
Between the beginning
And the end.
I didn’t know to ask
So I slept through
Lost in a day dream
Of many improbable things.
I didn’t ask for much
But they took even more
The last one in
And the last one out.
We track our progress
But never what we do
Wasting our time
And wasting our breath.
Furiously running
But never getting far
Utterly dependent
And totally controlled.
Tethered to debt
With no room to spare
The few and the many
Broken by the wheel.
We live in fear
But it’s all just a waste
Locked in a box
When we never
Got a taste.
I turned on the light
And then I watched
Them scramble
Heading for the shadows
Where no one can see.
Clawing over
A sacrificial prize
Covered over in secret
By a million different lies.
But even the worst
Must spend itself away
Because nothing lasts forever
Except for the good
And God.
