In the beginning we knew
But then we doubted
And learned to kill ourselves
Attacked from inside out
Oblivious and dumb.
Children can see
And learn from experience
Until we teach them to lie
And ignore what is true.
None of this is new
And none of it is real
As we fumble through the day
And shiver the night.
Unprepared
And undefended
We are left on a playground
With predators
And disease.
Behold the red fish
Flopping on the ground
Flashing in the sun
So that we, won’t turn around.
