Long Division

Long Division        3/9/2015

Sixteen days,
Ten minutes and fifty-three seconds
Almost nothing gained
And everything lost.

Today I walked the streets
The same ones I remember
But either backwards or forwards
It is more alien than ever.

Dawning is the horror
That we have not
Learned a thing
Still ready to believe
Almost anything, we are told.

Programmed to lie
And educated in the dark
We are blind to the reality
Drooling on our necks.

Beyond hatred
And cruel indifference
We care more about fitting in
Than truth.

What others protect
We give away
Sacrificing the innocent
Beholden and dumb.

Controlled, and manipulated
We pay for our own demise
Believing against all reason
That it is right
And it is fair.

Propped up every day
The same sacred lie
Disproved by reality
A thousand times ten thousand.

This will fall hard
And implode upon itself
As the hated
Are pitted against each other
For murder and for fun.

But we go on
Just like yesterday
Walking on a train track
In a long dark tunnel.

It is poison
But even that
Is better than ignorance
Squeezed dry
Without knowing at all.

We pour ourselves out
In hopes of something better
And now more than ever
It is more than enough.

I pray for you
Yes even you
Whomever, wherever
Apart and alone.

They search for us
While we search for God
Watching forever
The dance macabre.
